The largest star found?

My friend and I were having some conversations about stars and plants etc...tonight....and she mentioned that the largest start ever was discovered. and that it is being watched because it could explode soon?? causing a huge black hole? could someone tell me more about this. and if it did cause a huge black hole...would this have any effect on us or any other planets...or galaxys?
