Not all religions speak of "afterlife", and religious stories are irrelevant to science in any case. After the life of an organism is over, its life is over by definition. If the atoms become rearranged in a new organism (such as when a worm eats the dead body and lays an egg), it will have nothing to do with the organism its parent consumed, other than maybe the ratio of isotopes for each chemical element will remain almost unchanged.
